Welcome to Our Mission!!

Dear Sister Cannon,

Congratulations on receiving a call to serve in the Portugal Lisbon Mission.

We are so excited to have you come join us in serving the Lord and establishing the Church here in Portugal.  We are sure that you have many questions but before that we wanted to introduce ourselves a little bit to you.

President Brent D. Fillmore has been a teacher with the Church Education System.  His most recent assignment has been as an Institute of Religion teacher at USU in Logan, Utah where he has worked for several years.  Before that he worked at the Church Office Building.  He loves young adults and the youth of the Church.  He served a mission to Porto Alegre, Brazil from 1985-1987.  He enjoys fly fishing and being in the mountains.  He is an avid reader and loves to cook all types of food.  He is not retired from work.

Sister Joan Woodbury Fillmore was most recently an adjunct professor of Math at USU in Logan.  She enjoys playing the piano, singing, eating the food President Fillmore cooks, playing with and generally being with our grandchildren, reading and doing family history research.  She has enjoyed volunteering at the schools that our children have attended.  We have 6 children.  3 girls and 3 boys, ages 30-20.  Our youngest son served a mission in Ecuador.  We are the grandparents of 9.

To help missionaries with suggestions before they come, we have created:

  1. A page on our blog at fillmoresinportugal.wordpress.com.  There is a black bar under the title that has “For new missionaries” and “Sending Packages to Portugal.”  Please carefully read the “For new missionaries” section.
  2. We also have a Facebook page that you may want to join.  We post pictures of the missionaries when we meet for Zone Conferences and other activities.  The Facebook page is “Portugal Lisbon Mission FILLMORE 2018-2021”

We are very excited to meet you and to work with you.  May you be blessed as you prepare.  Please read the Book of Mormon every day.  You will come closer to the Savior.  As Joseph Smith said, “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”  We know that this is true.

Sincerely,

President and Sister Fillmore
