Sister Fotografia :)

Olá!!

T R A N S F E R S
This week was pretty wild with transfers. On Wednesday we took a 3 1/2 hour bus to Lisboa (and got lost on the way) to the transfer site. It was sad to say goodbye to Sister Fraser and Elder Freeman, our little Viseu district. But when missionaries leave, new missionaries always come in!
My new comp is Sister Ragazzo! She's from Brazil and she's super fixe(cool)! We ONLY speak portuguese, so I'm learning really fast. Talk about full immersion into the language. But we have lots of fun together and HER FOOD! It's seriously incredible! I will most definitely be eating like royalty this transfer.
Elder Bautista is training so we have a newbie in our small little district too! His name is Elder Southwick and he's from St. George. He's super cool too!

This week was a little slow but we're doing lots of finding. Sister Ragazzo is an actual machine! She's an incredible missionary so I'm learning a lot from her already. This transfer will be super awesome!
Our members are missionaries and a half! We have a member who invited a friend of his to church, and also invited him to talk to the missionaries. And we had nothing to do with it! That is member missionary work right there!

Ok now the subject of my email will make sense... nobody here can pronounce Elder Southwick's last name. I guess it's very American. A Brazilian member tried to pronounce it and said "sowchee-lickee"! And another member, Telma, was like "I'll just call him Elder, and Sister Cannon, I'll just call you Sister Fotografia"(Canon cameras). Whatever's easier for them I guess!😂

One thing my district leader said has really stuck with me about the concept of hope. When I got a Brazilian comp, admittedly I was super nervous only because I would only be speaking Portuguese which I'm still relatively new to. I realized that I needed to pray for help but ALSO i needed to have hope(faith) that the Lord would help me. I've found that, when I focus on my hope instead of my doubts, portuguese not only comes easier to me but I don't have any fear as well. It's a major blessing.
Hope makes ALL the difference!

Its hilarious trying to talk to my family and friends in English after a full week of only portuguese. I never thought I'd get to that point haha! Miracles are real🙏

I hope you all have a great week.
Love you, stay safe, be smart, enjoy life, and go give your mom a hug today♡

Amo vocês

I'm staying in Viseu :)

Olá!
Yet another week has flown by. It's super strange to think that I'm already almost 1/3 done with the mission. What they say about time on a mission is sooooo true:
A month feels like a week
a week feels like a day
and a day feels like a year 😂

T R A N S F E R S
I've never heard a more true statement about time. All tell you what though, things are really switching up here in Viseu. This week is transfers so I'm staying here in Viseu while Sister Fraser heads off to Lisboa. And my new companion will be Sister Ragazzo from Brazil! I met her when I first arrived in Portugal, she's a sweetheart! But it's gonna be so sad saying goodbye to my comp. Elder Freeman, in our district is also heading off to Lisboa, so only 2 of our 4-missionary district are staying, Elder Bautista and I. Thats gonna be a huge change but thats mission life for ya!

D I V I S Õ E S
This week we did a divisão (which btw is an exchange) and i went to Coimbra for  a day with Sister White while Sister Hunt came hear with Sister Fraser. I was in Coimbra for about 18 hours total and I fell in love with the people there already. They are so spirited and kind!

We also had Stake conference this weekend. It was packed in our chapel! And our mission president came too which was such a blessing. I love President and Sister Fillmore so much!
We had one of the people we're teaching come to the Saturday session which was super fixe (cool)! The Spirit was super strong there wow, our members are incredible!

We went to a restaurant owned by a lady we are teaching. And FOGO the food was incredible! I will genuinely be surprised if I leave Viseu without gaining weight👍😂

P E A C O C K S
For our last p day as a district, we went to a parque right outside of Viseu and took pictures. We found a ton of Peacocks which was hilarious. So we kept trying to sneak up on them and take a selfie with them, which kind of worked...

Spiritual thought:
I've been studying the concept of grace recently. Something that really stood out to me was a quote by Brad Wilcox: "[through grace] we don't earn heaven, we learn heaven." I love that idea. We are indeed saved by the grace of Christ yes, but grace has another purpose. That's change. We are learning how to live in a way that we will be comfortable living in the presence of God. And the only way we can change and become better, is through grace. The grace of Christ.
Please listen to Brad Wilcox's talk "His Grace is Sufficient" at a byu devotional (it should be on churchofjesuschrist.org or youtube). He can explain grace a lot better than I can. Grace is huge as a missionary because every day we strive to be a little better. And when we slip up, we can continue to try because of His grace. Its the same with everyday life!

Have a wonderful week! Smile a little brighter today, life is to be enjoyed:)

Eu amo vocês!

Portugal winter is starting:)

Olá!
Yep Portugal winter is starting. That means lots of rain and rain and rain. But I'm not gonna complain bc it's definitely not the same as snow. This will be my first ever winter without snow, but gotta experience it sometime! Also, Christmas is only 72 days away, not that I'm counting down or anything:) Christmas is a big deal here in Portugal so we're super pumped for that!
Not much to say about this week. We did lots of finding and visiting members.
We did a mission wide fast though which was super awesome! The whole mission skyped together and prayed to end the fast yesterday afternoon. It was a super cool experience uniting as a mission for the same goal. I know that God is preparing people here in Portugal to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
My comp Sister Fraser turned 20 this week and a member in our ward had the same birthday so we had a little Festa with lots of bolo (cake) and other sobremesas (desserts Portugal style). So that was a blast!
Transfers are next week so this could very well be my last week in Viseu. We'll have to find out but we're all hoping to stick around a little longer because Viseu is the best place on earth! But the Lord has a plan and I'm so good sticking with his:)

S P I R I T U A L THOUGHT:
This week, I was reading the talk from this past general conference by Elder Terence M. Vinson of the Presidency of the Seventy called "True Disciples of the Savior." I love this talk because it talks about giving it your all. This is how we need to be living our lives. Not only giving one day a week to the Lord but focusing our whole week on Him. We can still have fun, work, study, and everything but remember Christ in everything. Because He is a part of everything good! I love this talk please read it if you get a chance.

I love you all--have a great week! Go give someone a hug today!

Parabéms Rebeca :)

Olá friends and family!

This seek was once again pretty eventful! A little girl in our ward named Rebeca got baptized. Was no joke the sweetest baptism I've ever attended. She is such a beautiful example and she's only 8 years old. She faithfully reads her scriptures every night and prays. For her birthday she didn't ask for a party or for presents. All she wanted was to be baptized on her 8th birthday. Children never cease to amaze me with their perfect faith and desire to follow Christ and do good:)

Friday night we ended up in the hospital quite unexpectedly. Turns out my health decided to make another run for it. Nothing really serious happened just a fever and some pain but it ended with just an IV in my arm for an hour and a half and pain meds that made me pretty loopy. I guess that had to be entertaining for my companion! I can't speak portuguese super well even when I'm not drugged up so I'm sure that was quite the sight to see!

GENERAL CONFERENCE my friends!!!:D I have no words to describe it. Wow! If you haven't seen or listened to it yet, stop reading this email right now and go watch it at churchofjesuschrist.org
One talk I would specifically suggest reading (or re-reading if you already have) is President Nelson's in the final session on Sunday. There are big things happening but we need to remember the little things we can do to in our own lives. I know without a doubt that he is a prophet of God.

Thanks for all the prayers this past week. I can sure feel them🧡
Please know that I'm praying for all of you. I love you and I hope you have a great week!

P.s. I cut my companions hair today, like 6 inches off! Turns out I'm not all that bad of a cosmetologist. Brinley, you're my role model:)
