Week 3 in the MTC

Ola ola todos!!
Somos muito bem qui em a MTC! Eu amou o Espirito eu sinto aqui e muito divertida e me ajuda crescer muito. Eu amou Portugues tambem! E muito divertida e interesante!
Hey everyone! I miss you all so so much! I hope everyone's doing well.
This week has been kinda crazy! I gave my first TRC lesson last monday night shortly after I sent out my last group email. It started off really sketch because I spaced all the Portuguese and for some reason I could not put together a coherent thought in Portuguese haha! Our second round of TRC teaching was sooooo much better though and we were able to understand everything she said in Portuguese and we were able to get to know her and teach her about the Gospel in Portuguese as well! It was the coolest thing ever like seriously the Gift of Tongues is real!

For those of you who don't know... TRC is a program where volunteers come into the MTC and act as people who we teach in our mission languages. It's super great practice because we meet them, get to know them, learn about things they're going through Spiritually or just in their life, and then we give them a Spiritual thought or teach them about the Gospel. This is actually such an amazing experience because TRC volunteers act as themselves even though they're speaking in Portuguese but we genuinely try to help them know that God loves them and that Christ died for them. I'm so grateful for TRC lessons because it is the closest we can get to real life teaching in Portugal.
We get to teach another 2 TRC investigators tonight which I'm excited for!

I met my third cousin this week haha! He's a Portuguese teacher at the MTC and his nametag Irmao Cannon so we took a picture and looked up how we're related and YEP! Turns out we're third cousins... we even look alike haha!

Sister Weathers left this morning along with so many other friends but I know they’re gonna be amazing missionaries out in the field:,)

My district is the coolest! Our zone had Italian, Romanian, and Portuguese speakers but all the Italian speakers left early this morning. But we have a brand new batch of Italian missionaries coming in on Wednesday so that's super exciting! This past Wednesday we had a new Elder join our district. His name's Elder Lui and he's from Utah. He'll be serving in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and he's the coolest!
This past week it's been really rainy but when the sun finally came out, we went and played sand volleball at the fields which was a blast! Despite our busy schedules, we still have time to go have fun and play volleyball or soccer! Honestly, the MTC is so fun and all the friends I've made here are so awesome!

Spiritual thought:
Jesus Christ suffered all the pains and afflictions so that we wouldn't have to. If we have faith in Him and we look to Him, He will walk with us always so that we don't have to suffer. I'm so grateful for Christ's example because He ALWAYS turned outward. When He suffered from hunger, pains and afflictions, and even betrayal, Christ always turned outwards and thought of others. He is such a good example to me and to everyone. Look up the talk "One by One" by David A. Bednar! It is soooo uplifting!

I love you all--have a great week! Please email me I would love to hear from everybody!

Te amou,
Sister Cannon

Also, I was made a Sister training zone leader so that’s pretty neat
And here’s my cuz:D

Week 2 in the MTC

I speak Portuguese now haha! I'm no where near fluent but it is so so so fun learning a new language. I'll tell you what, o dom de linguas (the gift of tongues) is so real! We've taught three lessons already in Portuguese and we're teaching another one tonight so bring on the blessings hahaha!
We had one new sister join our zone this week! Her name is Sister Hamilton and she's the cutest missionary ever... she'll be serving in Sao Paulo Brazil. We also have two missionaries in our zone serving in Mozambique, two missionaries who will be serving in Cape Verde, four who will be serving in Boston, Massachessets, a cou[le more sisters serving in Sao Paulo Brazil, and the rest of us are going to serve in Portugal! And all of us are speaking Portuguese!
It's so fun meeting new people because there's people from all around the world here learning different languages. I have a friend who is from Venezuela who's serving in Brazil and then another friend named Elder Perez from URUGUAY who will be serving in Rome Italy. I played him in soccer and got completely destroyed haha!

On a less exciting note, I sprained my wrist this week playing volleyball  but I got a pretty sick bruise out of it haha! Then I jammed my thumb the next day playing volleyball again haha. I thought I had broken it for a while but I guess not. Little tip for all you incoming missionaries: DO NOT GO TOO HARD AT VOLLEYBALL! The game get's pretty intense here at the MTC so be aware haha!
Elder Neil L. Anderson of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles came and spoke to us on Tuesday which was amazing! He spoke about repentance. Here at the MTC there is a huge focus on the Doctrine of Christ which is centered around His Atonement. It includes having faith in Him, repenting, being baptized in His name, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. It is our purpose as missionaries to bring others unto Christ through these steps. Elder Anderson said "When we choose to repent, we choose to change... and to become more like Jesus Christ." President Nelson said repeatedly at the last General Conference that we need to all practice daily repentance because repentance isn't just for major sins, repentance is about change and becoming more like Him. Please read the Book of Mormon! It is the Word of God and I know that it can change your life.
Eu sei que Jesus Cristo e o filho de Deus e que atraves Ele, nos podemos receber a Vida Eterna.

I love hearing from all of you! I hope you have a great week!
Te amo muito,
Sister Cannon:)

Below is a picture of what my wrist has looked like all week haha but it's all good because I can still hand people Book of Mormons and that's all that matters!

Tayler's first letter home from the MTC- Week 1

Olaaaaaaaaa EVERYBODY!
I made it to the MTC and now I'm finishing my 6th day here! Time has flown by it feels like a just got here yesterday haha :)
It's so amazing and the Spirit is so strong all the time!
I can introduce myself, meet someone, pray, and testify in Portuguese already which is seriously a miracle #thegiftoftongues because it's only been 6 days. I gave my first lesson in Portuguese on Saturday which was CRAZY but it actually went pretty well surprisingly haha!
We spend hours in class everyday so it's super fun going to breakfast, lunch, and dinner with my zone and district. We're all already so close and they're seriously all such blessings! We have three Australians in my district which is just the coolest thing ever because I'm low key obsessed with their accents! I'm trying to perfect my Australian accent but so far it's not very good haha!
I have run into so many elders and sister from BYU, from Iowa, and from Logan. Sister (Jewel) Weathers is on the same floor as me in our residency hall! I ran into Sister Allison from Waukee, Iowa! I saw Sister (Mikayla) Grouix from Iowa! And I also saw Sister (Afton) Mann who is going to serve in Albania! I love seeing missionaries who I know in the MTC.
Today is P-day so we had the opportunity to go to the temple and I gotta say, GO TO THE TEMPLE! It is seriously such a blessing in my life to live by a temple so if you live by one... GO! The blessings that come from the temple are unexplainable.
There is a video of a talk given at the MTC by Elder Bednar called "The Character of Christ"! I promise you it will change your life! If you watch it, watch the whole thing! I promise you it's worth it. It gave me a whole new perspective on Christ and my purpose in life.
Eu sei que Jesus Cristo e o filho de Deus. Deus e nosso Pai Celesial e nos amao-lo. (my Portuguese is a little sketch and l haven't figured out how to type the accent marks on a US keyboard yet haha) :)
I would love to hear from all of you! It's so fun hearing from everybody so please shoot me an email at tayler.cannon@missionary.org! Don't forget that Tayler is spelled with an "E" instead of an "O" haha otherwise I won't get the emails:)
I miss you so so much! Have a great week!

Love,
Sister Cannon

Te amo!!

Your time at the MTC will not only be a great blessing to you, but also to your family and friends.  On your Preparation Day, please use the appropriate communication channels to share of your experiences as you study the gospel of Jesus Christ and feel of the Spirit.
